About the Bee

The CAPE Spelling Bee is the largest fundraiser for CAPE. It is a beloved town-wide event that brings together our schools and the Canton community. Students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, who are invited based on top scores on a school administered test, are placed on teams for their school.  Middle School students self-select to be placed on a team to compete against each other.  The High School students volunteer to participate on teams competing against adults.  Adult teams are comprised of teachers, parents, school administers, town officials, local civic organizations, community groups and businesses. There are also raffles and silent auction items available at the Bee.

Canton High School students responding to a question about how improvements to the Home Base classroom that were funded by a 2019 CAPE grant have impacted them personally:
I can be more comfortable and get more of my work done.”
"It helps because it's more calm.”
“It lacks the usual oppressive feel of other classrooms.”
“There's more access to resources, such as Chrome books, and places where I can do work.”
“The changes make HB more comfortable and enjoyable. It feels like a safe place to be in.”
