Fall 2013 CAPE Grant Awards
FASTT MATH MAKES US SHINE
Shanna Belenky, Dean S. Luce School
The project will increase student fact fluency in the areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in two special education 4th grade classes. The project is directly correlated to the district vision to work to develop students who are competent and creative thinkers and confident learners.
SOCIAL THINKING CURRICULUM
Kelty Kelley, Rodman Early Childhood Center
This grant will supplement materials to a pilot project called the Incredible Flexible You: Social Thinking Curriculum for Preschool and Early Elementary. The goal is to have all early childhood program staff speaking with one voice around social-emotional skills by the Fall of 2014. The lessons used will be incorporated into the thematic curriculum and the common vocabulary will be utilized throughout the school day.
ENGINEERING THE FUTURE, PROJECT 4.0: ELECTRICITY AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
Katie Healey, Canton High School
Engineering is a new class being taught at Canton High School this year. This grant will supplement the start-up cost of the class by funding snap circuit electrical kits and battery chargers to teach the portion of the program during Term 4.
CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
Rebecca Tellyer, Galvin Middle School
The goal of this project is to connect 7th grade students with music and culture of the Middle East and Brazil taught in two units. This will be accomplished by listening to, analyzing, describing and composing music which will provide a gateway to understanding each area’s rich culture and history.
